Splenic Artery Aneurysm

Abstract
Aneurysms of the splenic artery are the third most common intra-abdominal aneurysm, following aneurysms of the infrarenal aorta and iliac arteries. Splenic artery aneurysms are the most frequent visceral artery aneurysms and account for more than
50% of
these lesion. Yet the true incidence of splenic artery aneurysms is unknown, since most patients are asymptomatic and the diagnosis is generally made incidentally. Atherosclerosis is found in the majority, and the fact that these aneurysms
deveolp
more
commonly in females, a population not especially prone to atherosclerosis, particulary the parturient woman, has led to the suggestion that the atherosclerosis deveops secondarily. The treatment of patients with known splenic artery aneurysms is
dictated by several factors, inclduing age, sex, presence of symptoms, size, and cause of the aneurysm. The choice of operation is determined by the location of the aneurysm. Now we report two cases of splenic artery aneurysms in 60, 20 year old
females, respectively.
